Mr Fothergills FOT Tomato Mortgage Lifter produces large, meaty and flavoursome tomatoes weighing up to 400g each. The rich, firm red fruits are ideal for sauces and other traditional recipes. This heirloom variety can produce high yields of up to 16kg per plant and requires staking for best results.

Mortgage Lifter was developed from Italian, German and English beefsteak tomatoes. The variety dates back to the 1930s and was named after the farmer who grew it. Sow seeds 5mm deep in seed-raising mix and maintain temperatures of at least 18°C for best results. Transplant once seedlings reach around 5cm high and stake plants early.
